Dr. Mazen Albaghdadi is the Medical Director of Madaktari Africa, a US-based non-profit that has supported the development of cardiac catheterization and critical care cardiology services at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) for nearly a decade. Madaktari Africa’s collaboration with JKCI helped establish the first public cardiac catheterization laboratory in Tanzania and train the first several generations of interventional cardiologists at JKCI. Through his work at Madaktari Africa, he is committed to developing sustainable, advanced cardiac care in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Albaghdadi is also Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Associate Program Director of the Cardiology Fellowship at the NCH Rooney Heart Institute in Naples, Florida, USA. Dr. Albaghdadi trained in internal medicine and cardiology at Northwestern University where he also obtained a Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation. He then went onto obtain Interventional Cardiology and Vascular Medicine training at Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital where he remained on faculty at Harvard/MGH where he practiced clinically and also conducted cutting-edge research in the field of interventional cardiology. He also obtained additional training in Structural Heart Disease and Congenital Heart Interventions at the University of Toronto/Toronto General Hospital.
